There is a push in vehicles as well as consumer appliances to incorporate permanent magnet machines into their products. The performance of these products is dependent on the correct assembly and magnetization of the machine rotors. There are many challenges involved with quickly characterizing a rotor. This session will discuss using back EMF measurements to characterize and validate motors at the end of an assembly line to quickly decide if a part meets the requirements for production.
Mitch has worked in electric motor development for 7 years and specializes in the test and measurement of traction motors and drives. He focuses on developing new testing techniques and accelerating the development process. He has been with HBK since 2017 as a member of the electric power testing team. He has an undergraduate and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison WEMPEC program.
